JDC MINISTRY
The Sebastian County Juvenile Detention Center allows each week for local churches to minister to the teenage boys and girls that are held in their facility. Grace Student Ministries participates in this rotation on the 4th Thursday and Friday of each month. On Thursday our adult volunteers lead a devotional hour from 8 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Friday our adult volunteers serve a prepared meal from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
There are many ways in which you can participate in this ministry:
1) financial support - the expense of food each month can be costly. Our approach focuses on feeding them a prepared meal by a volunteer at Grace...and so you can help by supplying what is needed for the preparation of the meal. Typically this would be done anonymously by the person preparing the meal submitting receipts for the supplies and you making a contribution so that they can be reimbursed.
2) food preparation - it is our approach to provide these kids with a prepared meal. This is done on a volunteer basis by those that have the passion for cooking. We take this approach because we feel a prepared meal is better than fast-food. Not only does fast-food lack most of the nutrition that they need, it also lacks a heart of service. It has been our experience that these kids respond differently to a meal that has been intently prepared for them through a heart of service to Christ...it makes a huge difference.
3) leader / mentor - we always need male and female adults who are willing to serve by leading our devotional time as well as leading through serving our meal. In order to do this there is a process of approval by way of the Juvenile Detention Center. This usually takes a couple weeks or so and involves you filling out a form and submitting it to JDC for approval. They will then send you an ID card that allows you access to the facility. The form can be downloaded below - please return this form to the office at Grace Community Church and we will take care of the rest...your ID card will be sent to the church and we will pass it on to you.
